With this short story by Thomas Hardy published as Parallel Texts, in both English and Romanian, Translation Café begins the publication of books translated by students who have graduated from the MA Programme for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text. This is their debut as professional translators.
          The aim of such books is to bring together research, translation and elucidation of the text. The students choose their own texts. They are usually obscure short stories by classical writers, and most of them have not yet been translated into Romanian. The stories are accompanied by explanatory notes, mainly for the use of Romanian readers.
       The short story we are publishing now has been chosen and translated from English into Romanian by Cristina Drăgoi, as part of her Dissertation, defended in June 2015.

         Cu această povestire de Thomas Hardy publicată sub formă de texte paralele, atât în engleză, cât și în română, Translation Café începe publicarea unor texte traduse de absolvenți ai Masteratului pentru Traducerea Textului Literar Contemporan. Acesta este debutul lor ca traducători profesioniști.
         Scopul acestor cărți este acela de a îmbina cercetarea cu traducerea și elucidarea textului. Masteranzii își aleg singuri textele. Cel mai adesea, acestea sunt povestiri obscure scrise de autori consacrați, iar majoritatea dintre ele nu au mai fost traduse în limba română. Povestirile sunt însoțite de note explicative, care se adresează cu precădere cititorului român.
         Povestirea din acest număr a fost aleasă și tradusă din limba engleză în limba română de Cristina Drăgoi, ca parte din disertația susținută în iunie 2015.
